Every year since 1963, the federal Administration on Aging has designated the month of May as “ Older Americans Month” to celebrate the vitality and aspirations of older adults and their contributions to the community. This year’s theme is Unleash the Power of Age. The City of Cleveland proudly joins in this national celebration and embraces the theme as Cleveland seniors are one of our greatest resources.
Join us for the 24th annual Cleveland Senior Day on Tuesday May 21st in Public Hall at 500 Lakeside Avenue. The event begins at 10:00 a.m. with a resource fair with information from more than 50 community agencies. A sample of agencies that will be present includes Cleveland Water, Cleveland Public Power, Cleveland Public Safety, Cleveland Public Library, Benjamin Rose Institute, Legal Aid Society of Cleveland, Metro Health Advantage, Fairhill Partners and many more. Nineteen outstanding seniors, one from each ward, will be honored at a program at 11:00 a.m. by Mayor Frank G Jackson and each of the 19 City Council Members. These individuals represent the thousands of local seniors who continue to devote their time and efforts to make Cleveland a great place to live, to work, raise a family and grow older. Lunch and entertainment will follow the program. Music performances include the TOPS Swing Band and Cool Breeze and the Players and dance entertainment from senior participants of the Cleveland recreation centers and other senior programs. You might even find yourself dancing with Moon Dog, of the Cleveland Cavaliers.
The day promises to be filled with new knowledge, fun, friendships and community building.
