Statement from Mayor Frank G. Jackson Regarding Supreme Court Decisions on Marriage Equality and the Voting Rights Act

Today, the United States Supreme Court made two key decisions regarding marriage equality. These decisions will help move our country in the right direction – towards ensuring that everyone has the right to marry whom they choose and receive the same benefits of legal marriage as do their neighbors, relatives and friends. These are good decisions for our community and our country.

At the same time, I am disappointed in the Supreme Court decision regarding the Voting Rights Act. I encourage Congress to move swiftly in enacting new legislation that ensures every American has equal access to the polls on Election Day.
