8 road graders added to snow removal effort

407857_10151176315216962_1281066938_nWith snow still falling, crews are focusing on the main streets and we’ve brought out the heavy equipment to help. Eight road graders are assisting 46 snow plows in clearing Cleveland’s streets.

To help the snow plows do their job, Clevelanders are asked to limit travel as much as possible. Staying off the roads allows snow plows greater access to the road and makes it easier for emergency vehicles to travel.

Roads: Currently, a total of 54 crews are continuing to work the main streets. We will stay fully staffed overnight and into tomorrow.

Parking Ban: A parking ban went in to effect at 2 p.m. today. As a result, stopping, standing, and parking of vehicles will be restricted and prohibited on City streets with posted red and white signs UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. Parking is prohibited on designated Snow Emergency streets, which are identified as necessary for transportation, the movement of food and fuel supplies, medical care, fire, health and police protection and other vital facilities of the City.

The City of Cleveland encourages residents to:

  • Park off-street on all city streets to give allow snow plows room to plow curb-to-curb.
  • Stay off the streets as much as possible for their own personal safety and to allow snow plows greater access to the city’s roadways.
  • If you must travel, use caution, allow extra time, and remember not to “block the box” at intersections.
  • If you must go outdoors, take proper precautions to stay safe. Click here for a list of cold weather tips
  • Pay attention to local news for weather advisories and visit http://www.city.cleveland.oh.us/ and clecityhall.com for up-to-date information from the City of Cleveland.

Updates will be available as the forecasted snow event progresses.
