Cleveland’s snow fleet is out in force

As the snow falls, City of Cleveland’s snow removal fleet is focusing on the city’s main streets. We are fully staffed with 48 crews on duty overnight. 12 road graders will be added at 4 a.m. tomorrow to help crews clear snow for the morning commute. A snow parking ban takes effect at 11 p.m. tonight.

During events with large amounts of continuous snow, and in this case, wind anticipated to reach maximum speeds of up to 25 mph, the Division’s focus is on snow removal efforts and plowing main thoroughfares. Bridges and hills will be salted as needed. Motor vehicle maintenance crews will be available around the clock to service the snow fleet as needed.

For the morning commute, the City of Cleveland encourages all motorists to allow for ample time in order to reach their destinations. 26 traffic control officers and police officers are will be stationed at key locations to help keep traffic moving.  In addition, motorists should not “Block the Box” when traveling. Ensure you can move all the way through an intersection before the traffic signal changes. Stopping in the middle of an intersection prohibits oncoming vehicles from passing through that intersection and can result in grid lock.

NOTICES:

  • The Director of Public Safety has issued a parking ban effective as of 11:00 pm Tuesday, February 4, 2014. Stopping, standing, and parking of vehicles will be restricted and prohibited on City streets with posted red and white signs UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.
  • The City of Cleveland is requesting voluntary compliance from residents who park on streets that are not included in the ban. Parking off street whenever possible helps ensure that plows can service the entire width of the street – curb-to-curb.

The City will monitor the weather and the impact on our roads overnight. We will issue updates regarding progress and instructions for staff if necessary, including the potential of closures or delays. Updates can be found at the city’s blog at www.clecityhall.com. Please also check local news outlets for up-to-date weather, traffic and closing information
