Mayor Jackson Proclaims Monday, February 17, 2014 Random Acts of Kindness Everywhere Day in Cleveland

Today, Mayor Jackson joined local Clevelander Ricky Smith in proclaiming Monday, February 17, 2014 Random Acts of Kindness Everywhere (R.A.K.E.) Day in Cleveland. R.A.K.E. was founded by local comedian and Clevelander Ricky Smith as he traveled across the country and used social media to promote random acts of kindness that strangers shared with him along the way.

R.A.K.E., less of an organization and more of a movement, encourages people to simply go do something nice for someone else and the movement is gaining momentum! Recently, Ricky Smith founded the R.A.K.E. fund, which will allow him to finance a nationwide blanket drive and assemble homeless kits comprised of items such as toothpaste and hand warmers, for those less fortunate. In the past few months, Ricky has raked leaves and dressed up as a superhero to cheer up Children at the Cleveland Clinic. His acts are impromptu, born of spontaneity and mostly organized instantly via social media.

On Monday, Ricky Smith is spending 24 hours doing one random act of kindness each hour on the hour. He is encouraging others to join and help turn normal people into vigilantes of kindness.
