Mayor Jackson Swears-In New Director of the Office of Equal Opportunity

On Monday, October 6, Mayor Frank G. Jackson administered the Oath of Office to Dr. Melissa K. Burrows, who will serve as the city’s new Director of the Office of Equal Opportunity.

The Office of Equal Opportunity is responsible for the administration, monitoring and enforcement of the city’s minority and female-owned business enterprise programs; the new programs for smaller, local businesses; Fannie M. Lewis Cleveland Resident Employment Law programs; and prevailing wage compliance.

Dr. Burrows most recently served as the Faculty Diversity Officer at Case Western Reserve University where she oversaw compliance with equal employment opportunity and affirmative action laws and regulations relative to the university and the Office of Federal Contract Compliance.

Dr. Burrows is a native of Dayton, Ohio, has a doctorate degree in Urban Studies and Public Affairs from Cleveland State University, a master’s degree in Urban Planning and Policy from the University of Illinois at Chicago and a bachelor of art’s degree in Sociology from The Ohio State University.
