City Will Pick Up Discarded Live Christmas Trees; No Waste Collection on New Year’s Day

City of Cleveland residents can dispose of live Christmas trees and wreaths by placing them on tree lawns on regularly scheduled trash collection days.  The Cleveland Department of Public Works will collect discarded trees and wreaths from Monday, December 29, 2014 through Friday, January 30, 2015.  Artificial wreaths and trees must be broken down to fit in garbage cans for collection on regular trash pick-up days.

Trees and Wreaths Must be Free of All Lights and Decorations

The City will pick up live trees and wreaths only if free of all lights and decorations.  A separate trash collection truck will pick up the live trees for recycling.  In the spring, mulch from the recycled trees will be available to Cleveland residents who show proof of residency. Residents can get one free cubic yard of mulch while supplies last.  Additional mulch will be available for a cost.

Additionally, The City of Cleveland WILL NOT collect trash or recycled materials on Thursday, January 1, 2015 in observance of New Year’s Day.

Waste collection will be delayed one day for the remainder of the week.  The regularly scheduled Thursday trash collection will occur on Friday.  The Friday trash collection will occur on Saturday.

The regular waste collection schedule will resume on Monday, January 5, 2015. For further information regarding waste collection or disposal of trees and wreaths, please call the Division of Waste Collection at (216) 664-3711.
