Today, the Director of Public Works announced that four of the city’s recreation centers will be open 24 hours beginning Saturday, February 14, at 6:00 p.m. through Monday, February 16, at 8:00 am.

On Sunday, February 15, the Director of Public Works will assess the weather conditions and recreation center occupancy to determine if additional extended hours are warranted.

Residents seeking relief from the predicted frigid temperatures may visit the centers for shelter, warmth and wash facilities. The recreation centers that will be open 24 hours are:

  • Collinwood Recreation Center located at 16300 Lakeshore Avenue
  • Zelma George Recreation Center located at 3155 Marin L. King Blvd
  • Thurgood Marshall Recreation Center located 8611 Hough Avenue
  • Michael Zone Recreation Center located at 6301 Lorain Avenue

For more information, residents may call their neighborhood recreation center or call 664-2561. Residents who require heating assistance outside of normal recreation center operation hours and who are unable to get to a warming center are encouraged to call  2-1-1.
