City Revokes Taxi Cab Company License

The City of Cleveland Division of Assessments and Licenses announced that it has revoked the operating licenses of Wolley Taxi Company effective on Friday, February 20, 2015. This action comes after the Division discovered that Wolley Taxi Company was in violation of two sections of the City of Cleveland Codified Ordinances, §443.06 Liability Insurance and §443.32 Unlicensed Driver.

The liability insurance violations were identified after a random audit of company records revealed inaccuracies with paperwork and raised additional questions on the fleet’s insurance coverage.

A separate investigation led to the City discovering that Wolley Taxi had been employing unlicensed taxi drivers.

Taxicab drivers within the City of Cleveland are required to have a physical examination, drug testing, and a criminal background check.

The City’s investigation uncovered instances of Wolley Taxi foregoing these mandatory background checks into drivers.

“It is important that we hold taxi companies accountable and conduct these random audits to ensure the safety of those in the City who utilize these services,” said Commissioner of Assessments and Licenses Dedrick Stephens. “Whether you are living, visiting or working in Cleveland, it is important that the services the public utilizes are safe and reliable.”

Wolley Taxi has presented and filed its notice of appeal of the license revocation to the Board of Zoning Appeals pursuant to Section 403.09 of the Codified Ordinances of the City of Cleveland. Hearings will be administered and scheduled by the Board of Zoning Appeals.
