On Tuesday, May 26, the Cleveland Indians will host the Texas Rangers at 7:10 pm and the Cavaliers will host Game 4 at 8:30 pm.  The City of Cleveland would like to remind visitors and all those in the downtown area that parking restrictions will be in place for both days beginning at 4:00 pm.

“No Parking” restrictions will be in place at the below areas.

  • Huron Road – from Ontario Street to Prospect Avenue
  • Prospect Avenue – from Ontario Street To East 14th Street
  • East 9th Street– from Euclid Avenue to Carnegie Avenue
  • East 4th Street– from Prospect Avenue to Huron Road

In addition to the great sporting events our city has to offer, the 2015 Marc’s Great American Rib Cook-Off & Music Festival will take place all this weekend from Friday, May 22 to Monday, May 25. The festival will be held at Jacobs Pavilion at various times. Additional traffic and pedestrians are expected throughout the city this weekend as residents and visitors alike will be enjoying sporting events, food, music, and the Memorial Day holiday. In addition to the notification of parking restrictions, the City of Cleveland and Division of Police offer the following advice to improve your visit and downtown experience.

Arrive to your event early. Plan your commute beforehand to effectively utilize your time. For Cavaliers’ home games, there is a free FanFest outside The Q two and a half hours before tipoff. If you are attending any Indians game, arrive early and explore the transformed Progressive Field renovations.

Ride RTA. RTA will operate Red Line trains every 15 minutes to accommodate sports fans. Blue and Green Line trains will operate according to the regular schedule. All rapid lines will serve sports fans for at least 90 minutes after any game ends. Park for free at many of RTA’s rapid stations, buy a $5 All-Day Pass and take the train to the Tower City Station for an easy walk to the Q through the enclosed Walkway near Tower City food court. Plan your commute with www.riderta.com to enjoy all Downtown Cleveland has to offer.

Put Your Junk in Your Trunk! Valuable items should not be left in the interior of a vehicle where others can see them. Even better is to place these items in the trunk prior to arriving at your destination.

Be aware of increased pedestrian traffic in the downtown area.

If you see something suspicious, say something. Report any suspicious activity to safety officials.

The Bureau of Traffic will supplement their customary allotment of traffic enforcement officers with additional police officers and traffic controllers to facilitate traffic into and out of downtown and to assist with pedestrian traffic.  Numerous officers will be detailed to the area during the event for added security and crowd control.

The Ohio Department of Transportation would like to remind motorists that if you are traveling and use I-77 south to exit Downtown you will notice changes as the East 9th and Ontario Street ramps to I-77 south have been permanently relocated.

Outbound I-77 traffic now uses Orange Avenue which is reduced to two lanes in each direction between Carnegie and East 14th Street. In addition, motorists at the intersection of E 14th/Orange should be alert for new traffic patterns. This will impact I-77 motorists who use Ontario/Orange.

Traffic heading out of Downtown Cleveland:

  • Take I-90 west to SR 176 (the Jennings Freeway) south to I-480 east to I-77 south.
  • Take the E 14th Streetramp directly to I-77 south.
  • Use E 14th Streetsouth to Broadway Avenue to I-77 south.

Traffic heading into Downtown Cleveland:

  • Exit I-77 at E 30th/Woodland and use local streets to reach Downtown.
  • Exit I-77 at Broadway Avenue to E 30th or E 14th streets.

Motorists who use I-71 north or I-90 east to enter Downtown are also reminded that the Ontario Street exit ramp is temporarily closed and you should use East 9th Street instead – or – Opt for the Alternate! and use I-490 and I-77 to bypass construction.

Follow all posted signage and allow for extra travel time to reach, and depart, Downtown venues.
