CLEVELAND – Today, January 20, 2017, Chief of Fire, Angelo Calvillo, provided an update on the Cleveland Division of Fire issuance of Tactical Ballistic vests at the Cleveland Fire Training Academy, 3101 Lakeside Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio 44114.
“The addition of the Tactical Ballistic vests is just one more tool that provides a higher level of safety for our firefighters,” said Mayor Frank G. Jackson.
“In the world we now live these vests give our firefighters the extra layer of protection they need as first responders,” said Safety Director Michael McGrath.
This past summer the Division of Fire received its first 100 tactical vests in preparation for the Republican National Convention. Today the Division was able to issue the next 100 vests which provide every firefighter responding to an emergency a vest if the situation warrants it.
The vests provide the same level of protection as the protective vests used by the Cleveland Division of Police.
National Institute of Justice Rating of 3-A offers ballistic and blunt trauma protection and is the highest level of soft flexible armor available. The vest has multiple adjustment points for fitting the needs of every firefighter.
