Join Us for Sustainable Cleveland’s Year of Vital Neighborhoods Kickoff on Jan. 26

The City of Cleveland is designating 2018 as the Year of Vital Neighborhoods and will host a kick-off event on Friday, January 26 in City Hall rotunda from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event features more than 25 local leaders working to make Cleveland’s neighborhoods more vibrant and sustainable. The celebration is part of Mayor Frank G. Jackson’s Sustainable Cleveland 2019 initiative, with 2018 focusing on healthier, greener and more equitable communities.

“A focus on sustainability helps ensure our city’s longevity,” said Mayor Jackson. “We are committed to seeing this work through and look forward to Clevelanders from all walks of life sharing in the benefits of a sustainable Cleveland.”

Each year leading up to 2019 the City focuses on a key area fundamental to a sustainable city. This year, participants will engage with local leaders working at a neighborhood level on climate change, trees, water quality, active transportation, local food, community development, vacant land reuse, and more.

  • The kickoff provides a valuable opportunity for residents and community leaders to learn more about:
  • Local resources to help individuals, households and neighborhoods become more sustainable;
  • Funding opportunities for neighborhood sustainability projects;
  • Information on how to save money and reduce your carbon footprint; and
  • Ways to improve health and connect with neighbors;

“This is going to be an exciting year,” said Matt Gray, Chief of Sustainability for the City of Cleveland. “We are looking forward to engaging neighborhoods throughout Cleveland in a host of events all year, including neighborhood health and climate workshops, updating the Bikeway Plan, and community tree plantings.”

The event is free and open to the public. No registration is required. Attendees must show a photo ID to enter City Hall.
