Today, Mayor Frank G. Jackson issued a statement about the economic vitality of Cleveland’s Downtown neighborhood and thanked LeBron James for all he has done for Cleveland:
“Downtown Cleveland is home to over 15,000 residents – with more than 5,000 new residents since 2010 – and continues to grow. The City along with its private and public sector partners have invested in the redevelopment of Public Square, lakefront beaches and revitalized Lake Erie and Cuyahoga River waterfronts. More than $1 billion in private sector funding has been invested in the downtown neighborhood this decade, funding development from the opening of small restaurants to renovation and construction of large office and residential complexes with more to come. The downtown neighborhood will continue to be the epicenter for entertainment in Northeast Ohio. LeBron’s achievements on and off the court will leave behind a remarkable legacy in the City of Cleveland and I thank him for all that he has done. While LeBron James will be missed, Downtown Cleveland will continue to thrive as a world-class place to visit; live; eat; work; play and do business.”
We a should all be very impressed with what has been done in our great city over the past decade. Cleveland is and will always be a great city and it is a city that I am proud to call home. I applaud the mayor Frank Jackson, who I personally met years ago when I was working for the Catholic Commission and doing some community organizing in the Kinsman neighborhood and he was running for city council. With all of that being said, we have to get better services in our neighborhoods. The vacant lots are disgraceful, on my street E 111 and Buckeye the corner lot is so bad with the weeds and trees that you practically have to pull past the stop sign just to see the oncoming traffic. We have a great city with a great downtown, let’s make these neighborhoods great also.
