A joint statement to the community from Mayor Frank G. Jackson and Chief of Police Calvin D. Williams:
“Fourth of July weekend is an opportunity to enjoy spending time with family and friends. Tragically, five people were killed within our city over the course of the last three days. This violence simply cannot be tolerated. Our investigators are working around the clock to bring the violent offenders to justice.
We’ve said it before, crime is a symptom of a greater ill and we must address it holistically. The City of Cleveland is working to add additional officers, build stronger relationships with our local and national law enforcement partners, create new community programs and offer more support services for our youth. Yet, in order to address the immediacy of crime, we must do it collectively. We are calling on you to do your part, make an effort to learn more about the police district covering our neighborhoods, meet your district commanders, report the individuals perpetuating crime and take an active role in helping protect our community.
Anyone with information regarding the recent incidents of violence is asked to contact investigators at 216-623-5464. Anonymous information can be reported via Crime Stoppers at 216-25-CRIME.”
