City of Cleveland Reminds Residents of Holiday Waste Collection, Office Schedules

The City of Cleveland Department of Public Works WILL NOT collect waste on Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2018 or the following Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2019 in observance of Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

City of Cleveland offices – including City Hall, Cleveland Public Power and Cleveland Water  – will also be closed on Dec. 25 and Jan. 1. All City of Cleveland offices will reopen the Wednesday following each holiday. The Willard Garage attached to City Hall will also be closed on Dec. 25 and Jan. 1. On Monday, Dec. 24 and Monday, Dec. 31 the Willard Garage will close at 9 p.m.

Waste collection for the remainder of each of those two weeks will be delayed by one day except for those whose regular waste collection day is Monday.

The waste collection schedule for the weeks of Dec. 24 and Dec. 31 is:

  • Monday – No change. Regular waste collection.
  • Tuesday – Pick-up delayed till Wednesday
  • Wednesday – Pick-up delayed till Thursday
  • Thursday – Pick-up delayed till Friday
  • Friday – Pick-up delayed till Saturday

The City has not scheduled a separate pick-up for discarded Christmas trees. Trees should be stripped of lights and ornaments and placed on tree lawns for pick-up on scheduled collection days.

Waste collection will resume its regular schedule on Monday, Jan. 7, 2019.
