City of Cleveland and Greater Cleveland Sports Commission Announce 2019 Toyota USA Triathlon’s National Championships

Mayor Frank G. Jackson and Greater Cleveland Sports Commission welcome the 2019 Toyota USA Triathlon’s Age Group National Championships to Cleveland. This is USA Triathlon’s largest annual event. It will take place on August 10 and 11, 2019 at Edgewater Park and surrounding neighborhoods. The event will feature approximately 4,500 athletes and another 10,000 spectators from across the United States.

WHAT: The 2019 Toyota USA Triathlon Age Group National Championships. USA Triathlon’s event will include a swim portion at Edgewater Park with the bike and run portions passing through the following neighborhoods: Detroit-Shoreway, Edgewater, Downtown Cleveland, St. Clair-Superior and University Circle.

In conjunction with the Championships, select roads will be closed for the athletes’ safety on race days.

WHERE: The following road closures will be in effect from Saturday, Aug. 10, 2019 from 4:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

  • Eastbound Shoreway – Lake/Clifton & West Boulevard to Muni Lot
    • Detour: Eastbound/Westbound Shoreway
  • Westbound Shoreway – Dead Man’s Curve to Lake/Clifton & West Boulevard
    • Detour: Eastbound/Westbound Shoreway
  • South Marginal Road – Muni Lot to East 55th Street
    • Detour: E. 55th St. and South Marginal Rd.
  • East 55th Street – South Marginal Road to St. Clair Avenue
    • Detour: E. 55th St. and St. Clair Ave.
  • St. Clair Avenue –55th Street to East 40th Street
    • Detour: E. 55th St. to E. 40th St.
    • Detour: St. Clair Ave. to Chester Ave.
  • East 40th Street – St. Clair Avenue to Chester Avenue
    • Detour: St. Clair Ave. to Chester Ave.
  • Chester Avenue (Westbound) – East 40th Street to East 105th Street
    • Detour: E. 40th St. to E. 105th St.
  • East 105th Street – Chester Avenue – MLK/East Boulevard
    • Detour: Chester Ave. to MLK Blvd.
  • MLK Boulevard – East 105th Street to East Boulevard
    • Detour: E. 105th to East Blvd.

The following road closures will be in effect from Saturday, Aug. 10, 2019 from 4:30 a.m. to 1 p.m

  • Lake Avenue – West 104th Street to Clifton/Lake
    • Detour: Lake Ave.
  • West Blvd. – Lake Avenue to Edgewater Drive
    • Detour: West Blvd.

The following road closures will be in effect from Sunday, Aug. 11, 2018 from 4:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.

  • Eastbound Shoreway – Lake/Clifton & West Boulevard to Muni Lot
    • Detour: Eastbound/Westbound Shoreway
  • Westbound Shoreway – Dead Man’s Curve to Lake/Clifton & West Boulevard
    • Detour: Eastbound/Westbound Shoreway
  • South Marginal Road – Muni Lot to East 55th Street
  • Lake Avenue – West 104th Street to Clifton/Lake
    • Detour: Lake Ave.

The following road closures will be in effect from Sunday, Aug. 11, 2018 from 4:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

  • West Blvd. – Lake Avenue to Edgewater Drive
    • Detour: West Blvd.

NOTE: There will be no vehicular access to Edgewater Park Saturday, August 10 or Sunday, August 11 from 4:30 a.m. until 2 p.m.

A guarded swim area will not be available on:

  • Friday, August 9 from 10:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.
  • Saturday, August 10 from 4:30 a.m. until 4 p.m.
  • Sunday, August 11 from 4:30 a.m. until 12 p.m.

Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority: Adjusted GCRTA routes are available on their website.
