Two City of Cleveland Police Officers Arrested – Update #273

On January 22, 2021, two Cleveland Police Officers were arrested on misdemeanor charges of Dereliction of Duty, Obstruction of Official Business and Civil Rights Violations.  The investigation was conducted by the Cleveland Division of Police Internal Affairs Unit.  The officers are accused of failing to correctly document a reported assault and motor vehicle crash on August 22, 2020.  The Internal Affairs Unit submitted the findings of the investigation to the City of Cleveland Prosecutor’s Office and the officers were subsequently charged in Cleveland Municipal Court.  The officers will be placed on restricted duty with no contact with the public pending the outcome of the criminal case.  After the cases are adjudicated, the Cleveland Division of Police will conduct an administrative review of the facts prior to any disciplinary proceedings.

Patrol Officer Harvey Andrekovic, 47, was charged with Dereliction of Duty, Obstruction of Official Business and Civil Rights Violation.  Andrekovic was hired in 2011.  Patrol Officer Jason Rees, 33, was charged with Dereliction of Duty, Obstruction of Official Business and Civil Rights Violation.  Rees was hired in 2018.  Both officers were assigned to Basic Patrol in the Fifth District at the time of the incident.
