The City of Cleveland today made the following announcements:

148th Cleveland Police Academy Begins

Mayor Frank G. Jackson, Director of Public Safety Karrie D. Howard and Chief of Police Calvin D. Williams proudly announce that the 148th Police Academy of the Cleveland Division of Police began on Monday, July 12, 2021. Sixty-two new recruits reported to the Cuyahoga County Community College Metropolitan Campus for training.

Those attending the academy were selected after taking a Civil Service exam for the position of Patrol Officer. Candidates underwent several tests and a comprehensive background check before being tendered a conditional offer of employment. Those selected will be given instruction in police tactics, criminal law, community diversity, bias-free policing and crisis intervention training. Cleveland Police recruits will receive training specifically to prepare future officers to be responsive to the needs of the Cleveland neighborhoods.
