Commencing September 21, 2021, weather permitting, the City will begin Bridge Deck Repair on the Bessemer Avenue Bridge located between East 87th Street and East 88th Street. This bridge will be closed to eastbound vehicular traffic throughout the duration of this project. Westbound vehicular traffic will be maintained at all times across the Bessemer Avenue Bridge. Pedestrian traffic will be maintained at all times on a minimum one sidewalk across the bridge.
Eastbound Bessemer Avenue vehicular traffic will be detoured southerly on East 79th Street to East 78th Street; then East on Union Avenue and then, North on East 88th Street.
The project includes traffic marking removal, bridge deck and sidewalk cleaning, deck patching, deck and sidewalk sealing and new traffic marking. The work will take place during the hours of 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. This portion of the Bridge Deck Repair 2020 Phase 2 Project is expected to be completed no later than 6 a.m. of October 1, 2021.
